Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during a Reflexology session?
At a typical Reflexology session you will remain fully clothed, you will of course have to remove your shoes and socks! A full medical and lifestyle history will be taken and your feet assessed for colour, temperature, areas of hard skin, etc.. all of which will build up a picture of you and your needs. Your initial session will last approximately an hour and a half to allow for the consultation and chat about your reasons for coming, subsequent sessions will last approximately an hour. I use a comfortable reclining chair for treatments and an eye mask, blanket, relaxing music and water will all be on offer should you require them.
You are welcome to chat or you are welcome to take this time to switch off, or both! I will completely respect your wishes and will not be offended if you would prefer not to talk, it's your session.
The treatment includes relaxation techniques and I will also use alternating thumb and finger pressure over specific points on your feet with the aim of releasing tension and congestion in the energy flow to the corresponding part of your body. Any tender areas I locate on your feet can suggest blockages and congestion and I will help clear these by working on and stimulating the reflex area.
Every reflexology treatment ends with a lovely relaxing foot massage.
How will I feel during and after a treatment?
During the session you will feel incredibly relaxed and may even fall asleep! You may feel a slight tenderness as I work on certain parts of your foot and these may well correspond to the reasons you came to me. I will adjust the pressure according to your requirements and communicate with you during the session as to whether you are okay and happy.
After the treatment you will feel very relaxed and be advised to rest, avoid alcohol, keep hydrated and anything else specific to the treatment you have received. Maybe for a short time afterwards you may find you have what we call a healing response or healing reaction. This is where you may experience a temporary worsening of existing symptoms or you may feel lethargic or a bit out of sorts. You may also feel a heightened awareness of your feelings and emotions as your body re-balances. Everybody is different and your reaction, if any, will be unique to you. I would encourage you to see any reaction you have as a positive sign that your body is responding to the treatment by processing and eliminating waste products from your body - better out than in!
How many treatments do I need?
You may require at least 4-6 sessions to see an improvement in any acute or long term health conditions. You may just want a one-off treatment for some me-time and general relaxation then decide to continue with 'top up' sessions every 4-6 weeks to maintain well being. It really does depend on your budget, your presenting condition and how long you have had it for.
How much does it cost?
An hour session of reflexology costs £40. Please look at my prices page for more information.
